Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 is an application-layer-aware firewall that can inspect communications moving through the firewall and make intelligent allow-or-deny decisions based on an analysis of their safety and validity. The intelligent application-layer filtering mechanisms in ISA Server 2004 not only provide a high level of security for corporate Web servers, but also give the firewall administrator a high level of control over how these resources are accessed through the firewall. This white paper will discuss the ISA Server 2004 technologies that provide secure access to Internet Information Server (IIS) Web servers located behind the firewall.
