This paper addresses high-level questions one may have about transitioning from Tru64 UNIX on AlphaServer systems to HP-UX 11i v2 on Intel Itanium 2-based HP Integrity servers or HP-UX 11i on PA-RISC-based HP 9000 servers. HP has announced that Tru64 UNIX and AlphaServer systems will eventually be retired. However, the product roadmaps and remaining life cycle of this environment stretch for many years. On the other hand, the combination of HP-UX 11i key features such as virtualization, partitioning, and workload management, with Tru64 UNIX key features such as Advanced File System (AdvFS) and SSI clustering, will provide one with a robust enterprise UNIX.
