Part of the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DRK, the German Red Cross), the DRK Blutspendedienst Baden-Wuerttemberg - Hessen is a charitable organisation providing medical support. With different applications running on various platforms in each of its main donation centres, IT expenditure at DRK was relatively high. Working with IBM Life Sciences, they selected Inlog EDGE-BLOOD and EDGE-LAB software and determined that the best architecture would be a single clustered solution with a secondary data centre for backup. This architecture made it very important to have a reliable database server, so they selected IBM pSeries for its stability and the advantageous price-to-performance ratio.
