Mobile e-mail, scheduling, personal information management and intranet access are only the first steps towards a mobile-enabled enterprise. E-mail is a good starting point, because of its quick benefits to daily business across a wide user base. Establishing a horizontal solution first lays the technical groundwork for later implementations of vertical applications and for extending core business processes to mobile devices. Smartphones are evolving into communication devices that connect a person to business data, information and entertainment resources, both at work and at home. An investment in mobile IT platforms requires a terminal software platform designed for mobility, which is robust today and can continue to develop in the future.
