The ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack 3.0 (PMP) monitors servers and analyzes where bottlenecks or performance problems may be occurring. The PMP workload can vary significantly, depending on the number of servers PMP is monitoring, the amount of hardware on those servers, the sampling interval for each server, and the mode of operation on each server. Careful sizing of a middle tier server that will contain PMP is important to prevent bottlenecks. HP designed and performed lab tests to determine the effect of number of processors in the middle tier server, sampling interval, mode of operation, and database configuration. This paper describes those tests, the test results, and their implications for correctly sizing middle tier servers for using PMP 3.0.
