This paper presents an algorithm for fast computation of 3D discretized distance fields using graphics hardware. The algorithm uses a combination of culling and clamping techniques to reduce the number and size of distance functions that are rendered for each slice. This study also uses occlusion queries to speed up the computation and presents a conservative scheme to overcome sampling errors.
