The IBM eServer pSeries 690 set a world record in SPECweb99 benchmark in October 2001. A 16-way p690 HPC running AIX 5L V5.1 and Zeus 4.0 achieved an astonishing 21,000 simultaneous connections. The p690 HPC beats its nearest competitor (the HP server rp8400 running HP-UX 11i (64-bit) and Zeus 3.4r3 64-bit) by 40 percent. SPECweb99 consists of both static and dynamic workloads, represented in a web server environment. This paper describes a SPECweb99 benchmark measurement on a p690-based client/server system in the IBM Austin AIX lab.
