ALTANA Pharma is a division of ALTANA AG, an international company with more than 10,000 employees, 30 subsidiaries and operations in Europe, North and South America, South Africa, Asia and Australia. ALTANA Pharma saw an opportunity to secure its VMS/Open environment, and to create the possibility for a single backup solution for the future. Working with Comparex, ALTANA Pharma implemented an IBM eServer pSeries storage server running IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 5.1, with an IBM TotalStorage UltraScalable Tape Library 3584 (Linear Tape-Open) with five LTO tape drives. This solution provides storage for nine VMS/Open clients, and enables ALTANA Pharma to backup research data more securely than previously.
