This paper looks at best practices for managing storage availability. The challenge is to enable the storage administrator with tools and practices that can ensure high availability, maintain service levels, and reduce administration costs. The first part builds a case for why a comprehensive best practice management approach is required, what this might be, and how it can be integrated into systems management. The second part looks at how this best practice can be implemented for storage infrastructures built from IBM TotalStorage hardware and IBM Tivoli Software management products.
