This paper describes the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3592 drives and controllers. The IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3592 Model J1A is the first offering in the new 3592 tape drive family designed for enterprise applications. The 3592 tape drive is a new machine type, the 3592, with a new drive, Model J1A. It is designed to provide higher levels of performance, reliability, and cartridge capacity than the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3590, which it will ultimately replace. The 3592 tape drive represents the next leap in technology in the same way that 3590 replaced the 3490 drive family.
