The Flensburg-based Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), Germany's Motor Transport Authority, uses powerful, state-of-the-art IT systems to record, process and store vast amounts of data. The KBA decided to redesign its host-based Central Traffic Information System to ensure it could provide up-to-the-minute information in a user-friendly format. The project has been implemented using two Fujitsu Siemens Computers E200 Intel-based PRIMERGY servers. These are being run as web servers in conjunction with the open source operating system Linux (Red Hat) and other open source products (Java, Jserv, XML, XSL). Communication with the UTM applications on the host side is based on BeanTransactions, part of the openSEAS suite that provides the connectivity software to the host.
