EMC's Manufacturing employees rely on the IT infrastructure - and in particular the Oracle 11.0.3 database, for purchasing, order entry, materials requirement planning, inventory, and workflow. During peak periods at month-and quarter-end, the systems run nearly 40,000 jobs each day. That why EMC's IT staff knew they had to take action when they saw that Oracle database was growing at a rate of 24 gigabytes each month, and had nearly doubled in size in only 12 months since going live. In response, EMC's IT organization implemented the EMC DatabaseXtender product suite to intelligently identify and relocate rarely accessed, aged data from it's heavily used production database to a historical database.
