For more than 20 years, the Sundance Film Festival has been introducing emerging filmmakers to equally emerging audiences. With the advent of the online festival five years ago, Sundance found a way to extend their reach beyond Park City. However, streaming video had its problems. Too many users had to download special plug-ins. And once they had the right software, the interactive experience often put video in a separate pop-up window, keeping it boxed off from the rest of the site's content. This year, using Flash video for the first time, movies were instantly viewable by over 90% of the audience without any plug-in download.
