The State of Utah's Division of Finance collects and provides financial information to state agencies and citizens. The division needed to create an efficient financial management system that would allow the agencies to, easily and quickly access and analyze this varied financial information. A key objective of this system would be to replace the laborious generation of more than 900 hardcopy reports each month. The solution proposed was to create a data warehouse that would house the most current data and allow agencies to run their own queries and generate reports as needed, rather than wait for the delivery of the hardcopy reports. The resulting solution was a warehouse built using Sybase IQ running on an HP server.
