Quad Research started as an Internet service provider (ISP), but its founders soon identified a need for easily managed hardware that could help eliminate data bottlenecks that affect a service provider's reputation. Using the Microsoft Windows NT Embedded 4.0 operating system, Quad designed the 1System, a highly scalable and reliable, high-bandwidth platform for the service provider industry that also enables next-generation multimedia capabilities. A single 17 -by-24-inch Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS)-compliant chassis can deliver up to 3,000 simultaneous video and audio streams with storage of 1.5 terabytes for more than 1,200 MPEG-4 video clips due to its unique Fibre Channel-based architecture.
