The department of Physics at Oxford University needed a cost-effective way to analyse and store information relating to billions of high-energy particle collisions. There are already over two hundred terabytes of such research data to process, generated by the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory based in the USA. The university is using a Dell High Performance Computing Cluster (HPCC) based on 10 PowerEdge Servers and 16 PowerVault storage enclosures. The hardware processes data that is helping the University's physics department to unlock the secrets of the universe.
