For more than a decade, the Kentucky Education Technology System (KETS) has provided technology services to the Kentucky Department of Education and Kentucky's 1,400 public schools. The challenge was to standardize a heterogeneous distributed IT environment to enable centrally managed delivery and support of technology services to students and faculty. It joined the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Early Adopter program and consolidate Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure on 370 Dell PowerEdge 2600 servers. With the solution from Dell, KDE has been able to offload IT support tasks from individual school districts; centralize IT management using standardized Dell and Microsoft infrastructure to reduce IT complexity, improve security, and effectively provide services and support to schools.
