As databases grow larger, requiring more disk drives and cluster nodes, traditional storage management techniques can become less efficient, more complex, and prone to human error. Automatic Storage Management (ASM), a volume manager for Oracle_ Database 10g, helps simplify and automate many of the difficult storage management tasks surrounding large Oracle databases. This paper introduces the concept of ASM and presents techniques for implementing Oracle Database 10g databases on Dell/EMC Fibre Channel and Dell PowerVault SCSI storage arrays.
