This paper focuses on simulation-oriented performance models of software systems. The paper introduces an approach for translating UML software specifications into simulation models. The proposed technique defines the annotation of an UML system specification by using the UML profile for Schedulability, Performance and Time specification. This allows the designer to easily add quantitative informations to the software specification in a standard and consistent way. Then the paper derives a process-oriented simulation model whose execution provides performance results that can be directly interpreted at the UML software specification level.
