A recent merger between two pharmaceutical leaders resulted in the creation of a multinational corporation. It also brought together two very different infrastructures and management approaches. At the client level, integration would have to cover three continents, 45,000 users, a variety of hardware configurations, two operating systems, three office software versions, and hundreds of localized applications. To efficiently and cost-effectively handle IT integration, the company implemented a number of best practices following the merger. Corporate-wide, all platforms and operating systems were upgraded. Each region established proactive PC replacement policies and segmented users into groups according to the type of PC or notebook used.
