In the emerging mobile Internet, Bluetooth will serve as the link between the personal mobile devices and the wide area 3G access networks, i.e. offering an Internet access to the PAN. However, in order to use IP for ad-hoc Bluetooth PANs, certain additions and enhancements to the protocol functionality are needed. This paper describes technical aspects of applying IP to an ad hoc Bluetooth PAN. Access to the mobile Internet via Bluetooth PANs will be exemplified with an interworking scenario between a Bluetooth PAN and a GPRS access network.
