Novart, Finland's leading manufacturer of kitchen cabinetry and equipment, had a problem: Its 200 independent dealers were unable to close sales with customers at the precise point when those customers were most interested in buying. Novart realized that it had to build an extranet to get closer to its dealer network. Sofor has been installing Waplane applications since 1999, says Veli-Pekka Vähälummukka, a sales engineer at Sofor responsible for Waplane. Waplane, an outgrowth of earlier work to provide basic access to Notes through the Short Message Service (SMS), gives mobile phones access to Notes and Domino applications.
