Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Ltd. (Qatargas) has a vision of being the world's leading supplier of liquefied natural gas and condensate by 2010. This goal necessitates the adoption of effective planning tools for managing critical operations such as shutdown and plant maintenance. Regularly scheduled maintenance of crucial production machinery takes two months if managed properly, but the manual nature of the company's project management system meant delays in communication and reporting. These delays often led to project setbacks that cost Qatargas U.S.$2,280,000 each day. The company worked with partner Techno Management to deploy the Microsoft Office Enterprise Project Management Solution to facilitate better collaboration, data collection, and reporting. Managers now can see project progress, and resources spend 15 percent less time on project-related tasks.
