This paper compares the different materials used as a thermal interface between the processor and the heatsink. When installing heatsinks for AMD Athlon 64, AMD Athlon MP, AMD Athlon XP, AMD Duron, and AMD Opteron processors, a suitable thermal interface material must be used. This thermal material significantly aids the transfer of heat from the processor to the heatsink. For optimum heat transfer, AMD recommends the use of high-performance thermal interface materials only.
