The Ministry of Foreign Affairs represents Italian politics and culture in the world. Through its consulates and embassies, it takes care of diplomatic relations with foreign countries and acts for the Italian government outside Italian borders. They had trouble maintaining standardized procedures for software distribution, application support, tuning of the OS parameters and defining the resolution process. Before migration, Intel PCs running SCO UNIXWARE 2.1 operating system and IBM Informix Dynamic Server (IDS), Version 7.23 were used to execute the two main applications developed by IBM partners.
