Founded in 1909, Mutual of Omaha is a leading U.S. financial services company renowned for its innovative insurance products and services for individuals, businesses, and groups. In the mid-90s, Mutual of Omaha was looking for ways to improve their paper-based processing of claims and policy documents. The company realized that the sorting and routing of paper documents was vital to the flow of core business operations and could be greatly improved by migrating those documents from paper to an electronic format. By putting electronic documents at the fingertips of the underwriters, the company would be able to increase their productivity equating to better service for customers. Mutual of Omaha’s challenge was finding the right technology partner to help them achieve their goal. In 1995, after a thorough review of several technology solutions, Mutual of Omaha selected FileNet to establish a corporate-wide Enterprise Content Management (ECM) initiative to streamline and automate core business processes, starting with the organization's underwriting department.
