The Bluetooth Mobile Service Link demonstrates how a short-range communications device - in this case a Bluetooth chip - combined with the Internet can create mobile commerce without airtime. With any Bluetooth-enabled machine - a drinks dispenser, photocopy machine, petrol pump or parking meter, for instance - the user can place an order, receive goods and pay for them electronically via a hand-held device. Bluetooth technology enables the customer to record preferences, so that every time they pass a drinks machine, the machine will be programmed to dispense the customer's favorite drink.
