It started out as a curiosity, something more for teenagers than for anyone else, young people up in their rooms, supposedly doing their homework, but actually sending short communications back and forth to their friends. It is Instant Messaging, of course, which in the past few years has become interesting to more than just the late-night gossipers. Many industry observers believe that Instant Messaging will be the dominant communications platform for both home and office in the next couple of years.
