The National Autonomous University of Mexico presently has more than 35,000 computers throughout its campus locations. Its communication challenge was to link these computers together so student, faculty, and researchers can communicate with each other and retrieve server-based applications and tools. Moreover, to meet growing demands, UNAM wanted to expand the 12-building institute to include a new Engineering Tower. In order to achieve this, the school deployed 3Com solutions comprising of 3Com Switch 7700 modular LAN switch, 48-port 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4400 using 3Com XRN (eXpandable Resilient Networking) technology.
