This paper defines possible architecture and services for a national schools collaborative environment. It describes the problem space, services, the advantages, and constraints of a federated collaborative environment. The “Federated model” and collaborative environments very much rely on a set of shared tools, and standards, and does not rely on vendor specific technologies. Most standards specifications are either architecture neutral, or intend at developing this model.
