Challenge-Response technology is the latest tactic being implemented by several Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the ongoing battle against unsolicited bulk e-mails, or spam. Challenge-Response intercepts incoming e-mail before it reaches the customer's inbox to verify the message has been sent by a real person and is something the recipient has chosen to receive. This paper explores the issues that Challenge-Response addresses and explains how it works.
