Since 1978, Johnson Braund Design Group (JBDG) has provided clients such as Marriott International with architectural services. More recently, the Seattle-based architecture firm, in alliance with Cole + Russell Architects in Cincinnati, was hired to work on 46 projects for Marriott's Courtyard brand of hotels. Because the two firms are nearly 2,000 miles apart, success depends on clear, accurate, and timely communication. Instead of relying on cumbersome, distorted faxes, the architects use Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 to easily exchange ideas, designs, and sketches. The two teams work together on OneNote files located on a secure, shared Web site hosted by the Microsoft bCentral portal using Windows SharePoint Services. By sharing information accurately and in near real time, the teams complete tasks faster. Now that JBDG employees are using OneNote, they are able to finish a design project every other week instead of once a month.
