William Murray, a scientist at LANL, created an innovative solution for a mobile nuclear radiation detector. He developed a radio isotope identifier, small enough to attach to a Palm handheld. The radio isotope identifier can detect radiation, its source, and the type of radiation being emitted. A microprocessor embedded in the radiation detector communicates with the Palm handheld which can wirelessly send data about a suspicious reading to experts for further analysis. Access to current data enables quicker response to changing buyer profiles, and speeds data collection and availability.
