Novant Health is a not-for-profit healthcare system based in western North Carolina. In the past, physicians at Novant Health accessed lab data and radiology reports using shared computer terminals. However, this created a bottleneck to critical information. To solve this Novant Health deployed a mobile solution that lets medical personnel access patient records directly from their palmOne handhelds. This move improved the speed and delivery of patient care, and eliminated paper chases, paper forms and reliance on shared computers is saving users up to two hours each day. Today, physicians can wirelessly download current patient data to their handheld devices, confer with their team members, start their rounds sooner, and see patients earlier.
