The Cold Spring School New Haven, Connecticut wanted to provide its fourth and fifth graders with a mobile technology tool to investigate the rivers that surround their school and to help them stay organized and to explore uses of handheld in all subjects. To achieve its goals the school used Palm handheld computers, Landware GoType keyboards, handheld compatible cameras, and Vernier Software sensors. This deployment supported both individualized student centered learning and peer collaboration. It also promoted hands-on, positive attitudes towards technology among the students and offered a quick and accurate data collection method as well as it enabled long-term record keeping.
