Derby High School wanted to introduce high school students, many considered "at-risk," to handheld computing, to help them master those musical and organizational skills and also to explore the effectiveness of handhelds for teacher productivity. Palm handheld computers, Palm portable keyboards, Kodak PalmPix cameras were used with different applications to achieve the objective. This provided a mobile learning tool for the high school band and choir students. It also helped insure equitable access to technology among the students and enhanced student performance and increased their self-esteem.
