From July 31st 2003, the European Directory Services market is changing as part of the European Community’s e-Communications Privacy Directive 2002/58/EC. As a result of the new legislation, all new wireless and wireline subscribers will be required to give explicit consent for their personal information to be included in a directory vehicle – the so-called “opt-in” clause. This paper briefly describes the need for and the importance of directory services.
