On occasion Noridian’s dial-in customer service center received an overwhelming number of calls. Noridian Mutual Insurance Company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) wanted to expand its overall service by offering users another method of communication through the Internet. To serve better to its employees, members and healthcare industry partners, the organization developed several Web-based applications, offering users quick and convenient access to needed information. In addition, the organization faced the added challenge of complying with new security and privacy regulations outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Noridian needed a cross-platform solution that would combine these separate mechanisms under one easy-to-manage system, while guaranteeing optimal security. The organization ultimately selected Novell iChain as the most secure foundation for its security needs.
