By creating its own time and attendance application using Microsoft technology, Scripps Health found that it could avoid the U.S. $2 million cost of upgrading an outdated system. In addition, Scripps anticipates annual savings of more than $850,000 by creating Windows-based solutions to automate the process of preparing for a new hire's first day of work - reducing workdays otherwise lost to a new hire's inability to access key information systems and complete training requirements. Over time, Scripps plans on replacing inflexible and expensive legacy systems with its own applications that it is developing using Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, including Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003, and other Microsoft servers, applications, and development tools. Scripps also sees Windows-based technology aiding in implementing and documenting U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other regulatory compliance requirements.
