The introduction of DOCSIS 2.0, the latest specification from CableLabs, allows upstream capacity per channel up to 3 times greater than in DOCSIS 1.0/1.1 (DOCSIS 1.x) systems, with rates of 30.72 Mbps per channel as compared to 10.24 Mbps in DOCSIS 1.1. This means that with DOCSIS 2.0, MSOs can more cost-effectively offer symmetric services such as peer-to-peer networking, videoconferencing, Internet Protocol (IP) telephony, mission critical remote applications, and online gaming to their residential as well as new business clients.
