DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a broadband technology that uses advanced signaling techniques to exploit unused frequencies on copper telephone lines, enabling data transmission at multi-megabit speeds. DSL permits voice and high-speed data to be sent simultaneously over the same access line. An “always on” service, DSL users don’t need to dial-in or wait for call set-up, giving them instant access to network resources. xDSL is simply an acronym that indicates there are several types of DSL service.
