A key feature of the NAS 8000 series is file server consolidation of both UNIX and Windows type file servers. The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of how the NAS 8000 operates in an environment where it is servicing both UNIX clients using the NFS protocol, and Windows clients using the CIFS protocol. Several issues arise, particularly if the same storage (file system) is being accessed by both types of clients simultaneously, but this paper concerns two major issues: data integrity and security.
