The Austrian Ministry of the Interior, responsible for public security throughout Austria, consists of central management, the Central Gendarmerie Command, and the Austrian police. Realizing that it needed to create a more integrated communications and networking environment that would enable its law enforcement officers and staff to communicate and collaborate in near real time, the Austrian Ministry of the Interior is moving from Windows NT Server 4.0 to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with the Active Directory service and Internet Information Services 6.0. The new environment will support consistent, reliable, seamless communication, file and print services, and application sharing. It will also provide centralized management and enable the ministry to consolidate from about 1,500 servers to approximately 500. This move is expected to reduce TCO by € 7.26 million (U.S. $7.3 million).
