When West Corporation, one of the nation's premier providers of customer contact solutions, faced slowing response times from an aging line-of-business call center application written in Forte 4GL, they turned to partner Quilogy to design a better architecture. The new application, written in Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, uses Web Forms and a tiered distributed architecture to provide an attractive and speedy interface for the agents. The browser-based client needs no installation, and runs well even on older desktop machines. Agents can also work securely from home over a VPN. The scalability, reliability and availability of the new application are high because of the use of multiple Web and application servers and a clustered Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition installation.
