Western Gas Resources is an independent natural gas producer, gather, processor, transporter, and energy marketer based in Denver, Colorado. Western Gas continually looks for ways to control costs without sacrificing reliability, seeking efficiency from every operation, including information technology. In the early 1990s, the company replaced a legacy accounting system developed for the energy industry with Oracle Financials, a flexible application that enabled automating data consolidation and speeding its monthly close. In 2002, Western Gas began to migrate its Oracle databases from UNIX and Windows servers to Oracle on Intel servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The company had determined the migration would lower costs and ensure the scalability needed to handle anticipated growth in the volume of data.
