Clifford Chance's IT team set out to provide their lawyers and support staff, who until recently had only had access to their email, with remote access to their complete desktops. However, since lawyers are dealing with the most sensitive of sensitive information and any compromise to confidentiality or integrity could be potentially disastrous, ensuring that only authorized personnel were allowed access and protecting the network from accidental or malicious intrusion was of utmost importance. Having evaluated the token technology marketplace, they chose RSA SecurID as it offered strong authentication with minimal impact on users, and enabled access to the entire desktop rather than being application-specific like many of the alternatives. Feedback from users has indicated that they find the authentication process transparent, and they are delighted by the greater freedom of movement on the network that RSA SecurID has enabled.
