A world-leading supplier in telecommunications, Ericsson works closely with customers to provide comprehensive network solutions, often supplying everything from phones to complete infrastructures. A key factor in the company's success is the ability to introduce new services that boost the revenues of its customers: the cellular network operators. Cellular network operators have traditionally made their money from voice services--people talking to other people. But with the world now communicating by PCs, pagers and electronic mail, Ericsson saw the opportunity to expand its service by offering data communications in addition to the current voice services. To manage the complexity of this wireless network, Ericsson chose Solstice Enterprise Manager and CMIP-based solutions as the foundation for the company's new CDPD Network Management System (NMS). The system leverages the Sun Solaris operating system running on Sun Ultra servers.
