Before the liberalization and deregulation of the telecommunications industry, incumbent carriers such as BT employed many human resources (HR) professionals to serve a large, geographically dispersed workforce. BT believed it had an opportunity to compete and win in the new marketplace for HR services which would help underpin improving employee productivity and customer satisfaction. BT's leading-edge HR thinking formed the basis for what would become Accenture HR Services. The outsourcing contract has helped BT achieve rapid organizational change and demonstrate improved commercial focus. This helps its human resources operations deliver real value to the bottom line and enhance the company's reputation as the employer of choice in its industry.
