Horizon Services Group, a subsidiary of Horizon Lines, needed to increase the agility of its IT environment to increase the speed with which the company could deploy new code for Horizon Lines internal billing system. Powerful technology would also help the company pursue new business opportunities. To increase productivity and revenues, the company adopted Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the Microsoft .NET Framework to rebuild the billing application into a Web-based model running on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. After experiencing a 75 percent decrease in development time, faster time-to-market, and increased customer satisfaction, Horizon Services Group has plans to develop more customer- centric solutions that position it as a technology service provider in the shipping industry.
