For Danish road builder Colas Danmark A/S, producing asphalt and paving roads is secondary to its chief mission, which is building roadways that survive the tests of time and weather. However, when it came to providing IT services for Colas, Group IT Manager Jens Erik Ebbesen worried that the company's storage environment would sooner or later result in less than quality IT performance. Colas knew it had to change its storage solution, and the opportunity to do so come when the company decided to adopt a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Already familiar with IBM's performance in previous consulting work supporting other IBM equipment, Colas enlisted the help of IBM Global Services - Storage Services (IBM Storage Services). The consultants worked in tandem with Colas to plan and design a new storage area network (SAN) based on IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server and IBM 3583 Ultrium Scalable Tape Library. IBM then installed and tested the SAN within Colas's ambitious timetable.
